Bike running Boat not (so good)

Hi guys I'm back , and have that KZ 550 running great after changing petcock, little sea foam, deep creep, but thats not why I'm posting! 2yrs ago bought at an estate auction a 73 deck boat for fishin(and speedin)it also had a 73 mercury 500 thunderbolt 50 horse motor. Have had it out on water twice, both times after priming was hard starting (plugs checked and cleaned)after starting hard to keep idling without using choke, And under load dies or NO POWER lucky if it moves at all, pee hole is putting out water, have ordered the service manual, not here yet, and knowing how smart my fellow brothers are at KZR thought i would just throw this out let you all kick it around see how many IDEAs come back small engines to small engine, I think its carb related but from what Ive been told it could be a few other things. help me out here guys and help me get it runnin right, then next time your in the neighborhood we can ride out to one of out lakes, fish, boat ride, picnic, and party. in advance thanks guys I'll be watching!!!!

I think that's a 2 stroke motor. If so you may want to check out the reed valves.

one other thing to look at is your crankcase seals take it to a boat place and get them to pressure check the bottomend or if you have a good buddy that has a 2 stroke pressure tester throw him a few pepsi's and i'm sure it wont take long sounds like the typical crankcase leak to me. in a two stroke there are 2 kinds of compression primary and secondary primary compression takes place in the bottom end or crankcase, secondary takes place in the cylinder. primary compression is always higher
