Yeah buddy, this year I am not going to miss Mid-Ohio days. I have to go and see what that's all about. I saw that magazine and it got me really excited. I am thinking about doing that clutch cover that everyone is awe about. I think it looks pretty rad.

what clutch cover are you referring to.

The center has been machined out and plexiglass in it's place so you can see the clutch basket. It's a trick mod but a bit expensive to cut the center out and have it look professional.

Quick update on this project. I finally got back in to working on it. The chrome stuff is going out to be rechromed in a couple of days once the imperfections are removed. The head needs bead blasted and powdercoated and I will powdercoat the valve cover and leave the ends polished. The forks have been sent out to polish as I just don't have the time to do it myself any more with the baby and house and the WIFE!
I have a quick question for any of you guys who have done this before. I was thinking of using the clutch perch off of a yamaha r1 and perhaps the brake from a zrx so I could use the NICE levers on it instead of those old rattly levers I have now. Once all of this has been sorted I think in another two months bike will be ready for seat and paint. I contacted sargeant saddles and they said they make custom seats for the kz if I send them my pan or its corbin gunfighter and lady. Those bastards refused to sell me a seat saying it wouldn't work with my bike and then later changed and said it would. That left me cold with the price difference as they bumped up their price in the time we were talking about this would work wouldn't work story they were trying to feed me.
Anyone have any idea if sargeant does good kz seat restos? If they don't I'll just have to go with corbin and swallow that lumpy oatmeal they fed me. After corbin said yes it will work but the price is now 369 from the 299 they wouldn't sell it to me before for because supposedly it "wouldn't work with my bike" Now I realize that it was just the contour of the skinny tank vs fat tank. Seat doesn't fit the skinny so well. Who cares? I have fat tank any way. lol

I had Sargent make a seat for me and wasn't totally thrilled. I couldn't get a gunfighter for my MKII (Corbin said they wouldn't make one or recover one) so I went with a complete custom from Sargent. They wouldn't make me a gunfighter or help with the design at all. I basically had to design a seat and include all dimensions and angles and every little detail. The seat didn't come out so great but how was I to know what would work...it was the first seat I ever designed! I had well over $350 in that seat and ended up selling it. The work was decent but not outstanding. I think you'd be much better off getting a used corbin if that's the style you want.

Was it Corbin or Sargent that changed the story and price on you?

about the levers. i use a zx9 brake. way better than the kz. the best advize would be to get matching clutch and brake, that way its slightly easier to get levers. dont worry about the mirrors, u can buy the clamp that holds the perch on, with a mirror thread on it to fit any perch.

Wow, it's been awhile since I have visited this site much less this post. Yeah,Corbin did. I was going to order the gunfighter and lady last year. When I checked the price I found 299 a good price for my budget yet when I called to order it they said, no, it wouldn't work. So I didn't order it. When I had checked they changed it online AND the price. So, later, I called sargeant. They make an awesome seat for the zrx but when they told me about a custom made for mine I thought Hmmmmm... better just go with what I know and have seen. That seat doesn't look terrible yet it's not what I see on my bike. I will just order the lady and gunfighter from corbin when I get to that point some time in February I guess. Still haven't figured out the paint scheme yet. What thinking of doing the z1 design from the original tank and maybe even a modded design to fit the square tail fin if not the original design from the ltd 80.
Those wheels are really nice. Where did you get them from and how did you make them work for your bike?
Here's a pic of the engine finally getting back together if I can figure out how to post on this site since they updated it.

Mark1122,I will check in to those zx9 perches. If that works I will convert. What about wheels? I am leaning toward getting a nice size tire on it, 180 with a custom swing. I could use the same wheels I guess but why? They are like boat anchors. If I were to find a set of wheels that I could make work I think some nice 18 inch wheels I may just upgrade them in the process too.
Ok, I posted a while ago and didn't see that my post had set so I figured it got lost and double posted. Don't know how to delete.

Mr. Wog?! Yeah, I called him about lowering a zrx seat. I have seen his work. It is really good. You have a zrx too? I notice the shocks. How about some more pics of the whole bike?
I just picked up two zrx's over last summer and the season past. I loved riding them so much I kind of forgot my kz. So much money on that bike to be spending and not getting where I had imagined. That last build I thought would be the last for many years yet something happened and now I can guarantee you if I have the same issues within 10k I am going to be really POed. :-D

Quick update on the progress of my bike. From top to bottom street ported to larger intakes and polished head,.410 ape cams, cams spun on liska rollers and heavy duty chain. Stainless valves and lightend retainers, 31cr specials, Je Pistons, Falicon worked crank, billet gears and parts all back cut trans, powdercoating, too much money in that engine in just parts alone. Powdercoated frame and cases with the engine case coating designed for the heat, polished aluminum, custom swingarm awaiting paint, etc. will post more pics when rolling. I can't wait to get it finished, it's only been two and a half years collecting dust. The aluminum doesn't look too shiny but I polished it till it gleamed, every single piece that shows. Labor of love.
My goal is to get it running by the end of October realisically. If not then before december so I can trailer it to Cali and run it with my brother's bike.

Thank Mark, I just have to get tires, paint, and somehow restore my gauges. So many minor details add up.
By the way, I put my polished cam end caps on my 79, anyone have those that have the K engraved in them? PM me, I would love to buy those. Maybe I'm pissin in the wind. Those are probably rare and hard to find.

Well, I am going to try and keep it old school but...I wonder if that hydraulic clutch could be retrofitted inside the original clutch cover. hmmmm if so I may just get the perches and the gauges.
