77 KZ 1000

The project has started: took it all apart and am working on the frame right now. When I get the frame done I'll take it to a shop to get the ZRX 1200 swingarm fitted.

it's a magneto and the reason they used them was that under high cylinder pressures stock or the weak electronic ignitions of the would not keep firing so they went to the mag because the faster it spins the more voltage it put's out so it was tough to foul sparkplugs mostly used in high compression race motors or motors that were blown or turboed.

Why not fit the arm yourself? It seems pretty easy and I'm sure someone on here has done it and could let you know all the details.

The biggest reason the mag was used, was because it fired each cylinder individually. Gaining appx.13hp! Stock ignitions and electric ignitions fire two cylinders at one time. Some years back they ban them in pro stock. But didn't they look so tough!

I think that the RC distributers, were VW distributers. They were spinning backwards, thats why they didn't have a spark advance. Maybe some had a certrifical (that aint spelled right) advance. I know for replacements you used a VW.

I've been told that there is some machine work involved, but if someone could give me the details, a friend of mine could mill me the bushings. btw. the shop quoted me $ 400.00 to fit the swingarm and that's with me removing the rear passenger brackets and the brake arm bracket etc.
