Well I've been sweating the past couple of months on if I could ever solve all the title and PO issues to get this bike. It's been sitting on the side of a dealership for 4 years 'cause the PO couldn't pay the repair bill.

Bottom line is I'm now the second owner of this bike. It's almost all stock except for the luggage rack. Paint, fuel system and carbs are in rough shape...I'm guessing it'll take me awhile to get this one running. Fortunately the wife will let me keep the 750 around. I'm beat but I wanted to post a few pics before I hit the sack.

Wish I could say that's just dust on the tank, but that's faded paint!

My thanks to Ltdrider for getting me the CD of the manual...I think I'm going to need it!

Thanks guys, definitely going to keep it stock. Been looking for a grab bar but they're pricey so I'm going to have to wait until I get other things done.

Couple of kinda cool things. The tool kit is wrapped in plastic and it doesn't even look like it's ever been used. Shiney Kawasaki Tools! :cheer:

The Owner's Manual and Warranty Card were in the tail drawer and looking at it, got a surprise. The shop owner that sold me the bike was the same guy that checked out the bike to the original owner in May 1976!

First thing will be to pull the tank and carbs to check them out. Looks like the petcock is frozen open so I'm sure I'll find lots of fun stuff there! :P

Oh oldkaw, just noticed that you'd commented on keeping it as is. I'm eventually going to try and get as close to the original paint job as I can, decaled pinstripes and everything. Just might be awhile before I can save enough pennies!

What a cool find! Getting your hands on something this old that is unmolested is so rare these days. Kind of like you are opening up a time capsule of sorts:) How many miles does this bad boy have? Best of luck on the resto-

The bike has 31,600 miles on it which makes me a little nervous. The 400 and 750 only had ~12,000 miles on them and I didn't have to crack open the engine to get them up and running. Reading about the 900's, it looks like I might be close to needing a top end job.

Mine (76kz900a4) has 44,000 miles on the odo but the engine doesn't appear to be original. Runs like a champ now (knock on wood:)) but freshening it up is on the agenda for next winter(if it makes that far:)) Good luck on the project-keep us posted!

If was routinely serviced, it should go even further -- likely much further -- without needing a top end job.

Would check/adjust valve clearances, perform compression test, AND a leak-down test. All before opting for a top end job.

Good Luck! :)

Oh, yeah -- that nasty old original exhaust system really sucks. So just send it to me, and get it out of the way!
