i have been looking for a kz1000 in the central ohio area and i have found a couple of interesting bikes on craigs list. i'm new here so just wanted some opinions on a couple things.
the two bikes i have questions about are
79' kz1000 ltd for $2500
it has
29MM MIKUNI SMOOTH BORE CARBS
DYNA IGNITION/COILS/WIRES
KERKER 4 INTO 1 HEADER
CHAIN/SPROCKETS/REAR TIRE 3 YEARS OLD
BLACK IN COLOR UNDER 15,000 ORIGINAL MILES

the other is a 77 kz 1000 drag bike with a 13.5 to 1 1260 motor , it has an air shifter. new tires, new ignition . 40 lectrons and it had wheelie bars extended swing arm and custom seat and a bunch more. the guy wants $2995

i know i would have to do alot to the drag bike to make it run on the street again but as long as i could run a 13.5:1 bike on 93 pump gas i'm leaning more towards this b/c of the fact that i know that i can't leave things alone, and i'm going to mod it to look and go as fast as i want. so any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

if you guys want links to the craigs list postings they have pics just let me know

The first one sounds like a much better deal to me. The smoothbores alone would probably fetch in the $400 to $500 range on ebay. Unless I knew the seller very well I'd tend to stay away from a dragbike, just too many unknowns. You also said in your other post that you are looking to save gas, that dragbike probably won't get much better mileage than your car does. JMHO for what it's worth.

yeah i'm proly not going to do the drag bike b/c i'm not that confident on bikes anyways just yet. so i can build the bike for m ore power as my riding skills increase.

i'm going to keep looking around cuz i really don't want to spend much moor that $1500 for a bike that i'm going to be spending money on modifying anyways.

Again JMHO but you might be better off looking for a 650 or possibly a 750. The 900/1000 Kaws seem to bring a premuim price on the used market where the 650's and 750's can still be had at a pretty cheap price. The gas mileage is a bit better as well. They are still bulletproof and perform almost as well. I have both and I really enjoy my middleweight bikes.

I agree with The Gringo, not mention the insurance is so much better on a mid range bike. We have Rice Paddy here in cenral Ohio, so I'd find something that parts are plentiful and cheap for. A 650 fits the bill and it's no slouch. I still lust after a 1000, but I just keep reminding myself, a 750 gets the job done.
Good luck and let us know what you find!

I agree with Gringo as well but to be honest i can understand how sixgun can lust for a 1000 and seeing how i would have felt the same that sixgun would had i got a 650 or 750 im glad i was patient enough to find a strong running 1000 for $1700

I also agree with Andy..
On a side note, as convenient as Rice Paddy is.....STAY away..Myself and many others here in central ohio (columbus) have had nothing but bad luck with them. I wont go into trashing them on here but, be very cautious when dealing with them....
