This project is two and a half years long (so far).

Here's how it looked when I bought it.

It had missing engine mount bolts! And the usual amount of benign neglect.

Here it is today!

I've powder coated the frame and painted the bodywork. Cleaned all electrical connectors, did the coil power mod, replaced the horn - air horns are great! EBC rotors, new brake pads, steel lines.

I've replaced all the bearings and crusty rubber bits.
The motor (yep I knew something was missing from the pictures), has been treated nicely. Falicon did the crank, Liska cam chain parts, and APE nuts, bolts and bits are used.

A HD motor mount kit is on the way from Pingel. (It looks like the Kosman kit) and I've worked a nice bracing setup for the rear swingarm - I've just got to weld it. I'm not sold on the racing stripes - they are just stick on.

I sourced the parts from: Z1, Redline, American Classix, APE, Falicon, and of course Ebay.

What do you think?

I sent the cylinder block to APE, they bored it out to 1075cc, and supplied a set of JE pistons (comp 8.5:1) I went with the lowish compression because an old school draw through turbo is in the works. Or maybe a new school efi turbo depending on my mood!:P

I bought the rotors from BikeBandit.com. They were a bit too pricey, but they do stop nicely. The calipers are stock items. I bought the right side on ebay.ca The '78 came with just one, but I think '79's or '80's came with dual disks, and they bolt right up.

That's a nice brake set up! I've looked on BikeBandit before and never could find anything for a KZ. Are they for another bike? What is the part numbers for them,so when I update mine I can order them. Keep up the work! The bike looks great.

EBC has a website: www.ebcbrakes.com
They've got a searchable pdf catalog that lists all our machines and the usual "where to buy" info.

I bought from bike bandit because they shipped easily to Canada. The Bike Bandit part#(for the rear rotor): 1485274. If you select your machine (under My Garage) and then pick aftermarket parts, they'll show you all the brake parts for the KZ's.

This is probably a bit too fussy, but hey, I'm like that sometimes!:P

The phillips screws on the points plate were really irritating me. I swear the po used loctite or a breaker bar to put them in. So instead of putting up with the mangled screws, I did this!

And here is what it looks like now:

With any luck, it should be running within the week. Initally I had intended this to be an old-school draw-through turbo. So the crank's been welded, balanced, lightened etc. There's the pingel kit to tie things together. I've got a second swingarm to practice bracing with. However, funding means the forced induction will have to wait till the winter. :S

later...Sam

The mount plates are about 3/8" , the long bolts are 7/16" and the two lower mounts(with captive nuts) are 1/2".

Just about all of the holes had to bored out a little.

hope this helps...Sam
