Turning a KZ1000 J into a ELR ? was created by Night_Train01
I have a 1981 KZ1000 J and would like to make a ELR bike.
Is it just a matter of finding the GPZ body parts?, will these bolt directly onto the J frame?

pretty much...but you have to decide if you wish to recreate the commercially available 'R' model or the very rare 'S' model. Do a search on pictures of Eddie racing and you'll note he's riding with a J-style tank = that's the original S model...BUT, I have seen pictures of 'S' bikes with GPz-style tanks and J tanks....there have been many posts on this site dealing with ELR's:)

I have started searching for the body panels to convert my J into an ELR. man there are not many GPZ1100 parts laying around these days.
It looks like the side covers of the GPZ are a little larger than the original KZ1000 J covers. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks,

Side covers for KZ1000J1/2/3 = KZ1000R1/2 = KZ1100R1 = KZ1100B1/2...same for the basic shape of the tail fairing...remember, if you opt for using the GPz1100B1 (1981) tank as the basis for your ELR clone (same shape as the 1982/3 ELR tank), you must locate a round fuel gauge (same as the 1981 KZ1000J1). 1982 on uses the oblong fuel gauge.
