possibly kz650 fork tubes to lower the front a couple of inches,
I'm jealous...I keep dreaming of stumbling across a Z1 in someone's garage...but on to my only suggestion (at this time:) ), to lower your front and, all you have to do is drop in 650 springs...and I happen to know where a set is (about 10 meters from me..wink...wink).

That speedo most likely is toasted inside by the looks of the needle position. With the broken fins I was wondering if the cracked clock bracket was from impact or vibration, could you tell?
It’s really too bad about the paint, the sides look good from a distance. How deep are those gouges in the point and clutch covers? Think you can polish them out? I did get a really nasty scratch out of a Honda set. If you can’t find a cheap spare somewhere and not up to dealing with the mess you can send it to me once it gets warm out and I’ll do my best to get it out for you. No charge, I enjoy doing that kind of part restoration even if it is a nasty job (yeah, I'm nuts ) If I can find them I’ll post a before and after of the ones I did about a year ago.
With the miles on it and fin condition of the head it might be better to try and find a replacement unless you don’t mind it that way. Wiring harness is a #1 candidate for pulling and replacing or at least re-looming where it needs it. I re-loomed mine and it wasn’t easy but you will end up knowing your wiring better than your wife after doing it!
Oh and what is it with red and you??? Just kidding! (Though I can pretty well guess the color the bike will be after it is done!)
