78 KZ650 Cafe/Racer plus kz400 cafe
17 Oct 2007 19:50
OK its taken a while but it is almost finished! i need to get brackets welded on the back for the GSXR rearsets. Odyssey sealed battery is in the mail. buying tires this week. rear wheel spacer need to be machined down brakes need to be paint another color.
any suggestions? i'm looking for good tires with white lettering? I think i may get tires without the lettering then use one of those duplicolor tire paint pens to color the letters.
anyway here it is when i stated. at this point i had just installed the GS swingarm, spoke wheel from steell (thanks!), racer seat, short side pipe exhaust, and clubman bars
since then i painted the bike (but it needs to be repainted:( ), installed Dyna ignition and coils, replaced clubmans with clipons, got a fork brace from a gpz750 (i think?), new shocks, GSXR rearsets, kz400 heatlight, rear axle license plate mount, and a kz1000 rear brake. here is a pic up on the jack.
another with the pipes (one side)
hereis a some pics of the 400 i'm working on too.
Also here is a pic of my faters/soon to be mine 1969 250 dual sport

Great work! All the details pay off in the end. There are some really nice projects completed on this board. Doug

Excellent stuff, really nice work. I'm on the same road as you are, making a 650 cafe that is. I just started mine though, hope it can turn out as nice as yours.
Question, did you chop any of the frame where the seat sits above the tire? I'm wondering if it would look too long once I get the cafe seat made. Yours looks good so I'm just wondering if you cut any off? It doesn't look like you did, so I'll probably leave mine alone.
Also, how did you go about securing the seat to the frame?

actually i did cut mine off right at the end of the support piece where the shocks bolts studs are mounted. the cross piece that holds the fender and plastic splater guard thing was to high and interfered with the seat. If you have any more questions or want close up pics of parts of the bike just PM me.

Oh I see, thanks. I may take you up on that offer, because I'm sure I'll have some questions as I work along with my cafe. Thanks.

Nice work!
Where did you hide all the electrics from under the seat?
