76 900 LTD project done for summer
28 Apr 2007 21:41
LTD rider told me I ought to post a picture of my ‘76 900 LTD project. Here they are.
Powder coat: Frame, Headlight bracket, Chain adjusters, Chain adjuster/swing arm blocks, Swing arm, Front and rear foot peg mounts, Engine brackets, All battery box and associated electrical mounting parts, Rear fender mount, Brake light bracket, and Kick stand.
Paint: Wheels, Triple tree top and bottom, Tachometer and speedometer, Brake calipers and their brackets, Front master cylinder, Mirrors, Shocks and springs, and refinished the lower fork tubes.
Re-chrome: Brake pedal, Exhaust collars, Fork cable and brake line brackets, Chain guard, and Rear fender.
Replaced: Wheel bearings and seals, Swing arm bushings, bushing sleeves, O-rings, Steering stem bearings & seals with All Balls tapered roller bearing kit, Chain and sprockets, Tires, Rear inner tube, Front wheel right and left dust covers, Headlight ring assembly, Tachometer and speedometer chrome covers, Tach cable, Clutch cable, Oil drain plug, Fork dust covers, seals and fluid, Most of the small rubber vibration damper and mounting parts, One brake caliper piston, points and condensers, fuel lines and overflow lines, and the Carburetor holders.
Added a correct grab bar. Cleaned everything including he inside of the tachometer and speedometer glass. Rebuilt brake calipers and front master cylinder. Still want to replace the brake lines, headlight shell, exhaust system, seat cover, shock absorbers, several rusted chrome bolts and nuts, and re-chrome the front fender. Engine compression is about 100psi across the board. I figure that will be next winter's project.
The most challenging parts were getting the broken easyout, out of the broken carburetor holder screw, in the head. And, getting the snap ring out of the front master cylinder and a new one back in. That's a small deep place. I still think the front brakes feel a bit spongy.
It's time to ride the motorcycle and play some golf.

That's looking real nice. I agree, time to ride it and worry about the rest later. You can ride that to any bike night and be proud of it.

Thanks for the compliments. I debated putting pictures in from the teardown and build process. I rode the bike 70 miles on Sunday. Took my 17 year old daughter out for a ride and had a great time.
