Greetings,

I am a long-time motorcycle rider. I started on a 125 Kawasaki in '72, and have had H1's, H2's, a KZ650, a GPz550, and most recently a ZRX1200R. Along the way, I strayed with a TS250, GS500 and GS750 Suzuki, and a VFR750F Honda. I sold the ZRX a few weeks ago.

I just bought a 1982 GPz750 project. I will be picking it up tomorrow. It will definitely need some work, but I enjoy the hunt for parts. I still belong to the ZRXOA and may eventually install ZRX suspension on the front and rear of the GPz.

I forgot that these bikes had "limited" speedos. Has anyone come up with a way to re-calibrate these speedos to read out MPH higher than 85? If not, has anyone replaced the guages with another Kawasaki model?

Welcome maj75! You bought the bike from a fellow KZR member...and it is one of my favorite older Kawasakis (GPz's). I also have one (a 1982 KZ750R1). I think that I have seen modified early model GPz's with later model speedometers/instruments. I'm not sure that your current speedometer can be recalibrated so it will have to be a replacement with a later instrument package. You might explore the 1983-5 GPz750's ZX750A1/3 instrument pods as the 750 motor is very similar to the 1982 model. I don't recall when Mother Green went back to real speedometers.
