I used some old No.7 rubbing compound on my engine cases and chrome that had rust on it and got phenominal results. It takes alot of rubbing but it came out beautifully!!

if you start off with a 800grit sandpaper wetsanding, you will remove alot of the aluminum corrosion. graduate grits from 800g-3000g wetsand and you will have a killer base to polish from.
it takes elbow grease and time but its worth it(IMHO).

The chrome I did with fine steel wool. Yes, lots-o-rubbing, but the rims and exhaust pipe look pretty good. The head pipes are a bit rustier, and might need a wire wheel on the dremel. The aluminium engine covers are splotchy grey, but at least now they are smoothsplotchy grey. ;)

I will give the rubbing compound a try, thanks for the tip.
