EsaPro's sig says:

A bit rough around the edges...

just remember that thats a DAMN good lookin bike for its age.
you can either pull the engine and polish all of that or pull all of the rubber off mask the holes/lines. ospho the rust and paint it black.
either way it will look killer for a little bit of sweat.

good luck with it,
joe

The biggest pain is all the stripped out screw heads. I have made so many trips to the hardware store in the past week.

I want to pull off the carbs this winter, clean them up, maybe send them out to be rebuilt (not sure I can do it!). Some of the screws on the carb are marginal, but I have not investigated thoroughly. There may be some hopeless ones (such as those on my front m/c).

I like the black idea. The case covers are never going to be shiny again, I fear. I hit them with some mother's yesterday, and they look better, but far from pretty.

Thanks for the encouragement & ideas.

I used some old No.7 rubbing compound on my engine cases and chrome that had rust on it and got phenominal results. It takes alot of rubbing but it came out beautifully!!

as long as there is solid metal on the case covers then they can be polished to almost mirror.
look on ebay for screw and bolt replacement sets.

wiredgeorge may be able to help with your carb problem.
