Hi All, 

Working on my first restoration project, I'm battling my way through a full ground-up restoration of a 1978KZ650B and KZ650C. I've been plodding away for the last couple of years on this project, and I've nearly finished a full engine rebuild and rolling frame, and now it's time to get this thing fully operational.

Welcome to the fun! In the pic you posted it appears that the head has been installed in reverse than what it should be. At least to my old eyes I see the intake on the front of the head?

You do realize that the bike you posted the picture of has a 1979 model year frame?

The double foot peg bolts were introduced after the 1978 model year, so that makes it either a '79 B3 or '80 B4.

You can double check the neck VIN to find out. You might also want to verify your C model as well.

Paperwork varies by country, some frames came with head decals and some did not.

Here in Canada the VIN stamping on the frame is what they register it under and that only specifies the model, not the year. The head decal will have the build date but that does not dictate the registration model year. You would get the model year thru the frame serial number, as nowhere in our system do we document engine numbers at all. First registration here is done using the dealer import paperwork when the bike is purchased then tracked every time the bike changes ownership.

That web site I keep referencing is a invaluable knowledge base for the 650's. I have copied all the pages just in case it ever goes offline for good.
