Greetings from Cape Cod MA

Good Day,
It's been many decades since I rode old BSA Bantams and Honda 250s in the UK so I'm not really a Kawasaki enthusiast! (Yeah, I know - my loss).   
I joined because I have a 1984 KZ550 LTD (14K miles, paperwork.) sitting in my garage with a starting-to-leak cylinder head gasket.   The bike is a project bike belonging to my son.   We got as far as doing the front brake and fork seals, filter, etc  - everything necessary to get it on the road before the gasket started leaking.  Apart from that, it's not in bad condition for being 40 year old, as it was previously owned by a bike mechanic.  I believe it's all original apart from the handlebars.  Fortunately, I had the past experience of ignoring a little gasket leak on a 1980s Honda 250, which subsequently trashed that engine - so he stopped riding it before it could do serious damage.  

Unfortunately, my son was involved in a hit and run while on his mountain bike, and he has subsequently lost all interest in anything that has only two wheels.  He had a long road to both physical and mental recovery, but I'm glad to say that he's now doing very well.   However, the Kwacker has to go, and I'm reluctant to just scrap it.   So the plan is to post it for anyone who wants to take it.  The only thing I ask is a a donation to this Forum for the good work they do.   If people are of the opinion that there might be interest in it, please let me know here.  If there is sufficient interest I'll post photos in the "for sale/free" section.   

Oh - and the local cops caught the driver 6 hours after the hit and run.  They were able to determine the exact car model from bits of bumper and trim and an entire side view mirror assy left at the scene.  There were only 6 such cars registered in this county.   The owner lived in first house they visited, 5 minutes from the scene of the crime.    It was a young woman who had been texting while driving.   She lost her license for one year and got a 30-day suspended sentence.

I am also thankful that your son has recovered and that the perpetrator has had to publicly face the consequences of her choices.

I hope your son will one day overcome his psychological and physical trauma and be able to get back out on two wheels!
