KZ 700 CARBS
Yesterday 15:19
Hi folks, iam new to forum. So, I have new to me, new project a 1984 kawasaki ltd 700. This bike has sat for 20yrs. I just know the carbs will need atleast cleaned or rebuilt. No modifications to the bike. Its completely stick. Does anybody know what the jet sizes are. Iam getting conflicting answers. Are they 117.5 and 37.5? Also, I think they are keihin carbs (spelling). I have a extra set of carbs off my 1983 kz1100 and wondering will they work with proper jet sizes. I current have those carbs clean and ready but with stage 2 jets that are 40 and 122.5. Please lmk I apreciate greatly.

My take;....I believe in the US, the KZ700 had Mikunis BS34 and the KZ1100 Mikunis BS36. That means the boots and engine intake flanges may not be same size. Engines were not same family. Carb brand should be printed on the bodies........Main jets were about the same at 37.5, but mains may have been respective 102, and 120, reflecting the bigger capacity of 1100.
Bigger carbs does not mean better performance. Maybe if you are racing at top speed, but for driveability, you are much better off with the smaller carbs. Even for a 700cc, 34mm was big already. Bigger jets will mostly get more fuel consumption.
Again, don't own either, but those are some specs I remember for the USA models.

If they are Keihin, completely different arrangement then the Mikuni BS34's of the KZ1100. Numbers on jets between Mikuni and Keihin are arrived at in different ways and don't really relate to each other. You will spend WAAAY more time adapting the 1100 carbs then simply going thru the original ones!!

Greetings:
If your motorcycle is a shaft drive model, then it is actually a ZN700A1. If so, I have attached info from the Kawasaki Service Manual for your Keihin carbs...assuming they are original to your motorcycle. I have also attached photos of the service manual, front and back and I encourage you to acquire this manual...start your search for this manual on eBay and you will likely find it.
