Introduction was created by Parkers550
Hi. I’m Parker, I have a silver 1982 KZ 550. I have been working on cars and bikes casually for about 10 years now. I recently acquired my KZ 550 from my grandpa. I’m hoping to get it running and hopefully restore it to factory condition. Is the silver paint rare on the 82 model KZ550? I’m looking for any advice on cleaning and refreshing the paint, plastics, and chrome. I’m also willing to take any advice in general. Thanks for reading!

Looks like you've transitioned away from casual mechanics!
Seriously, welcome to KZR. There are many here with the experience to help you with your project.
Take a look at "new owner things to know" for some good tips from member Nessism. It can be found in the wiki tab.

Great that you're keeping it in the family! Looks like good bones. The ignition key is a real bonus! Hopefully the original title is available.
Patience will be one of your most valuable tools. A 'factory condition' resto will take lots of time & effort. But, when done, the sense of pride when you tell people, "It belonged to my Grandfather. I restored it." will be priceless.
Document everything. Can't take too many before / after pics for every step.
Welcome to The aZylum!

I'd say yes without question. every one I've ever seen has been red. and a quick internet image search shows red red red red red red red red red. a gpz probably makes it more desireable than the other 550s, certainly more so than an ltd. take care of the tank. the gpzs hard to come by.
