First Post frame for KZ1000R1

Hello, everyone, I'm brand new here so go easy on me for any mistakes. I am so excited to have found a 1982 Lawson Replica sadly it's been wrecked, and the frame is bent. Has anyone had a frame straightened before? If so, where ?  It was hit in the rear and the seat rails are bent down pretty bad and the front triple tree was bent. I was thinking of just replacing the frame anyone have a spare frame for sale.? KZ1000j or 1981-1982 GPZ1100 ?  Thanks in advance for any help.

The 1982 year model is fairly rare and I applaud you for considering straightening the frame. I think there is a fellow on this site who has attempted to straighten a frame...perhaps another member will remember the thread discussing this. Is the triple tree bent or just the forks? I t-boned an auto while on my GPz1100 many years ago and the forks were bent but the tree was surprisingly resilient and not damaged.  Made things easier to rebuild the motorcycle.

Having the frame “ jigged” professionally is a perfectly acceptable repair and keeping the original VIN will help preserve the value
PS: if you go this route make sure they jig it with the motor and swing arm installed otherwise they may not fit after “pulling”

Where there are racetracks, there is sure to be frame straighten services close behind.  And if there was ever a frame prime for ease of straightening, it's an old steel UJM type frame.

Worst case, you have to ship the frame somewhere.  No doubt though, there are places that will take care of you.

Getting the frame professionally straightened will probably be pretty costly.

If it were me I would look for a used same year frame and triple trees then transfer the VIN from the damaged frame onto the good frame, then scrap the damaged frame.

If you are the legal owner of both VIN's there would never be a issue with this method as long as you scrap the damaged frame (obliterate the VIN first) and destroy the paperwork associated so no one could ever make a legal claim on it.

I have seen lots of former wrecked street bikes that make perfectly good drags bikes that have no VIN numbers. There are all kinds of motorcycle salvage yards that will have suitable frames available.
