1980 kz750e1 vm24s
28 Mar 2025 20:17
hey all, i have a 1980 kz750e1 with vm 24s on it. im having issues with the bike im thinking mostly due to the carbs. i have a 4 in to 1 delkevic header with no baffle, and uni pod filters. what jetting will work for this setup? i have 35 pilot, 147.5 main, and the needles are 31. bike with the filters on will fall flat on its face at 5500-6000 rpm, without the filters i dont have this issue.

VM24's were used mainly on KZ650's. That jetting you have there is super rich even for pipe/pods.
Normal jetting for those carbs with pipe/pod (regardless of engine size) is around 17.5 pilot and 110 main with the stock needle on the 4th clip. This is assuming you have good compression and spark.
I ran VM24's on my 831cc hopped up 650 engine with stock air box and dual exhaust, it ran great with stock jetting (15 pilot and 105 main) Engine is well over GPZ specs. The small carbs will pull good to redline but you loose top end HP due to flow capability. They are great for in town and stoplight racing!

The jets you indicate you are running sound way too big for vm24s on a 750 and to me sound more like the sizes one might use on CV carbs? I am running vm24s on my 650 with 17.5 pilot and 110 mains and it is somewhat fat with those. I do not know what you mean regarding the needle at 31?
I created some tables of the carbs used stock on the 650s with jet sizes (not claiming it is 100% correct) that you can find at this link kzrider.com/forum/3-carburetor/617948-ar...-for-a-d1-650#871540
