New member saying hello

Hi everyone,

New member here saying hello.
I have just acquired a 1982 GPZ750 R1 project.
I was excited to find KZRider as I know the value  of the knowledge and experience available here.

I have built a couple Honda CBs, a Kawasaki F8, a ZX7R track bike and a KH400 that I still own.

My new project has some good bones. All the panels are intact and the frame is solid. The bike was received in boxes and the engine was removed by the PO to repair the starter clutch.

I won’t start the project until I finish the one on my lift!  So for now I will be looking for a shop manual and browsing the Forum looking for info on the bike.

Thanks

Welcome from South Southern Ontario.

I say this with some experience, but depending on how many KM's the engine has it would be wise to perform a split case rebuild.

Most GPZ engines were not treated that friendly and from what I have seen they can suffer from low hot oil pressure. I found this issue on my "low" KM '82 Spectre engine (detuned GPZ) and after swapping in a zero wear oil pump I confirmed that the crank bearings shells were worn. Once the engine is out of the frame it does not take that much effort to measure the crank and bearings for wear.

There is a specific test in the FSM for most late model 750 models. You need to be able to monitor both the oil temperature and pressure at a specified RPM.

Welcome from another Ontario member.

Spotted your project thread too.
Looking forward to it.
I tried to buy a GPz750R1.
Just can't pry it out of my buddie's garage. yet.
