Engine sprocket off center
09 Mar 2025 12:41
Is there any reason why my front sprocket is pointing more towards the center of the wheel versus being inline with the rear sprocket. I just swapped this engine in and I didn't miss any washers or spacers everything is sitting tight but I would suppose the engine is slightly turned.

Have you check "wheel alignment" in relation to the front wheel (the rear wheel not being straight would look like this)

I haven't checked the wheel alignment yet only because with a straight edge I can visibly see the engine sprocket is not straight. I'm shimming the left front engine mounts to see if that straightens it out any

You have to set the wheel center alignment first with invidual made spacer/sleeves. Some little mm of front/rear wheel off-set is acceptable under rar circumstances.
Later on messure the chain off-set and correct it with an off-set 6, 10 or 14 mm (530/630 chain) sprocket set.
Sometimes the rear sprocket carrier and his bearing location need some time on the lathe too....
What chain and sprocket set-up do you want to use.......

Offset isn't my only problem though. My front sprocket seems to be pointed in. Without moving the rear wheel right and turning it left out of spec I can't get it aligned.

Is the cush hub loose? Or wonky?

I see what ToyotaGuy means. The front sprocket is angled a degree or two ccw. Have you tried loosing all engine mounting points and twisting the engine cw? Also verify the front sprocket shaft is parrallel to the swing arm pivot.

It is a strange one, if you are sure everything is assembled correctly I would suggest putting a DTI gauge on the face of the front sprocket and rotate it to see it it is running true

The cush dampeners are fine. I've taken that wheel apart a million times at this point. I also loosened up the engine bolts and jacked the engine up. There's very little room to move. I tried shimming some of the mounts to force the engine to rotate a little which may have helped a smidge. l'm going to throw my swingarm from my A2 on and see how everything lines up. If that is successful or unsuccessful either way I'm going to take it to someone who has more of a machine shop than Ido.Idont have a lathe or mill or any fabrication tools like that.
I put this bike off for the time being. I need to make the decision if want to cut the subframe and get rid of that ugly dip the LTDs have or embrace it. Ended up getting a new xsr900 to give me my dose of retro styling.
I did blast and coat the calipers and forks tubes so at least it looks pretty sitting in the garage.
