Im Scott from Florida. If you look carefully this bike indicates how high the water was in my garage from the hurricane. 1978 KZ1000A. My uncle and his best friend rode around in the 70’s and 80’s on this bike and its exact twin (that my uncle still has). So im nursing it back to life. To be honest I thought the saltwater flood would have did more damage to it.
Here is what I have learned. Do not pump water out of the engine until you have oil and wd40. I drained it and it kicked over fine. a couple days later it was stuck. Filled it with cheap oil and wd40. Rocking it back and forth from the crank eventually worked it loose. Rebuilt the carbs (again) and got it running (0 electrical problems). Ran it for 20 minutes and it kicks over just fine now. Rebuilt the rear master cylinder (dry for 10 years), new chain, clutch, and rotor and its almost ready for a ride.

Wow! With that much water in the house, I bet the bike is the least of your worries. I hope you and yours are ok and your recovery is swift.

My house is a stilt home. it’s designed for water to pass underneath and cat 5 wind speeds. The only problem is that the stilt area is my garage. I thought I was smart and did most of the shelves and tables in stainless. That worked out but everything not on a shelf got soaked. Im an expert on getting water out of generators, pressure washers, golf carts and motorcycles now. I didnt have a single loss of combustion engines. I have about a 75% success rate for rebuilding electric motors too. My wife and I had no problems. some of my neighbors who have single storey home have had there homes condemned by the county meaning they cant live in that house anymore. Lots of boats are still in peoples yards because they are big boats that arent on trailers and it requires specialized equipment to solve that problem. I feel bad for the neighbors but all is well otherwise.

Good deal. Glad it was not worse for you.
There are some stilt houses about a mile from us. Most of them look to be around ten feet off the ground. Several of them had water in the first floor during hurricane Harvey a few years ago. A little bit farther downstream was a neighborhood where all the houses are on the ground. Many of them had water in the attic.
