Hello from England!
23 Sep 2022 09:53
Hi all, I've found myself reading a few helpful posts from this forum while working on my current project so only seemed right that I should sign up and contribute as well ![:D :D](/bigsmile.gif)
I'm Adam, been working on a 1979 KZ400 B2 project since about the start of the year, it's a California import and has needed a fair bit of work but I'm learning as I go. I've got a background in Engineering and I have modded and done work on cars for a few years but this is my first bike project. Hopefully below should be a couple photos of how it looked when it was first delivered (along with my GSX600F which I've just sold)

Hi Adam and welcome from Lancashire. Only been here a few days meself but everyone is nice and helpful. You are off to a good start by having a bike that the majority of members here are familiar with so you should find lots of useful info easy to come by. I'd say those photos were taken yesterday looking at the weather..

Welcome to the KZ asylum Adam. The bike looks almost complete and need some love to the details. Get the service manual and let the restore begin.

Thanks guys
That was actually in January! The bike was pretty complete but as always the closer you look, the more you notice what's missing. Have had a couple of head scratching moments with NLA or hard to find bits but am getting through it, I've got a rolling frame now, painted it all up, new bearings everywhere, re-laced the wheels myself which was new to me. Currently tackling the engine, unfortunately it's galled up one of the cam bearings pretty badly but otherwise wasn't too bad considering it had been sitting for 25 odd years!

I'll get a write up going in the Projects section when I get some time, will catch up the build so far!

That bearing doesn't look like it's been getting any oil at the least but well done for spotting it. Respect for lacing your own wheels, tried that back in t'80's with a TS250 back wheel. Didn't end well. Nice part of the world down your way. I have been seeing a lot more of the A5 since they started on the M1 sadly.

Welcome. Looks like the bike is coming along nicely. All this talk of places in England makes me think it must be time for another tirp over... been too long since I had a decent pint.
