New member introduction
18 Apr 2022 13:07
The first bike I ever owned was a 1977 kz650 b1 which I have restored to 1980 period correct candy and gold leaf mild custom trim. I restored my 1981 GPz1100 to appear as a ELR replica. For those “concerned” about this transformation, it had the carb conversion before I got it and was in need of a complete cosmetic restoration. I decided there is something iconic about green Kawis. While I ride these regularly, My daily rider is a 2002 ZRX1200R which has surpassed 50,000 miles. I couldn’t conceive being without one so I bought another with just 13k miles to have in stock, both green. While I’ve been riding kawis forever, I don’t spend much time online so joined to get help from you guys on my ailing GPZ. Happy to be here

Welcome Mike.
You have good taste in bikes.
I have always liked the GPzs, ELRs, 1000/1100Rs, and ZRXs.
I've got 128,000 kms on my KZ, and 87,000 kms on my ZRX.
Prices seems to be rising on everything, but I keep an eye out for the ones I like above.

Welcome Mike!
..."You have good taste in bikes." I second that !
I am busy right now with the same transformation of a 1981 GPZ1100 B1 into an Eddie Lawson "Tribute"
I use the word "Tribute", as it will be, essentially, a replica of a replica!
Follow my progress here: www.kzrider.com/forum/11-projects/617040...-elr-tribute?start=0
The ELR decals arrived on Friday, so painting is next on the (slowly reducing) "to do" list.
Some pictures of yours would be very welcome ! (please?)

Welcome Mike. We like GPz's here
My GPz750 is ELR-like. It's undergoing an engine refresh at the moment.

I live in Lake Oswego, Oregon, USA. The photo of the GPz (ELR tribute) was taken in Arizona when I took a Southwest tour last spring. That bike had the 4 into 1 header and carb conversion when I got it. It was a bit of a trick to position the big electronic gage pack within the GPz750 quarter fairing. I sourced some gold anodized reservoir shocks rather than spring for original. I matched paint and easily sourced badges and vinyl graphics. The notched seat vinyl is over the original foam cut down. I had finished assembling the kz650 one November and rather than fill it with fluids to sit in the shop for 5 months I enjoyed it in the living room over the winter. It’s been on the road for 2 years now.
