Kz550 build (in progress)
23 Nov 2021 13:42 - 23 Nov 2021 14:22
Hey there, picked up this ‘81 kz550 ltd in January. I’ve been working on it here and there. Just got the wheels back from powder coat and the new tires mounted. Bikes not done yet but, it’s very rideable and I’m digging the progress.

What type of motorcycle exhaust do you run on this bike? I am currently checking 4wheelonline for a couple of options for my ride.

Gutted stock muffler...that doesn't muffle?

24 Nov 2021 05:09 - 24 Nov 2021 05:47yep. Gutted the factory “mufflers” take your time and it will work just fine. I searched for months looking for a 4-1. Nothing available. What type of motorcycle exhaust do you run on this bike? I am currently checking 4wheelonline for a couple of options for my ride.

I'm surprised Delkevic doesn't have anything listed for a KZ550.

Re: Kz550 build (in progress)
30 Nov 2021 20:42 - 30 Nov 2021 20:44...especially considering it uses the same pipe and clamps as the Kz650. Heck, you can almost use a 650 header on a 550 by tweaking the pipes closer together. I've managed to bolt a 650 header up to a 550, but the problem is the header is just a bit too tall so the pipes hang too far down below the motor.I'm surprised Delkevic doesn't have anything listed for a KZ550.
I'm holding my breath for a 550 Delkevic option, but I turned blue years ago.
Mac 550 headers were workable, but they seem to have gone belly up.
