Hello from Denmark
05 Apr 2021 08:17 - 05 Apr 2021 08:53
Hi all.
Just bought my first Z650.
The frame is 1976/77 and engine is 1981.
As you can see it needs a lot of work, but apart from the rust it is on good condition.
My plan is to rebuild it.
Not sure yet if i go after original stock or my own creation. What do you guys think.?
I will post my progress in here.
Other than that thanks for a fantastic page. There is tonnes of very helpful information here. Keep up the good work
Kind Regards from DK

For some reason KZ650.info is not responding correctly, but I don’t think you have a 1981engine, it doesn’t have the clean air system (PAIR). Unless a previous owner removed it and swapped in a pre ‘78 cam cover. Please research this before ordering and parts to confirm your getting the correct stuff.

Hi Mikaw
Thanks for the info.
I got the year of the engine by searching the engine number.
And it has a cdi ignition and is painted black as off 1981 Z650 F2 models.
How excactly do you get to the 1978 engine again.? Only by looking at the cam cover.?
Do you know any links to where i can check the engine numbers?
Regards Anders

Check here.
www.kzrider.com/forum/5-chassis/536286-k...ne-number-confusions
You seem correct on the frame year, but it looks like it might be a1983 engine out of an 1983 F4.
I mentioned the 1978 because I thought it was the last year without the clean air system. I’m basing that on my experience with the “C” model I previously owned.
EDIT: I just realized you are dealing with the European version... everything I said is probably wrong... sorry I forgot the emissions of the us marketed bikes are different
