Thank for letting me join the group. Well, I'm old enough that I shouldn't make mistakes, but still do. I am also old enough to have had a Z1000A2 and then a Z1R (Z1000 got stolen) when they were new. I did a short spell of racing (ZX6R) some years ago and still have the bike. I'm currently working on a KZ1000A2 that is totally original (pipes etc.) but has some strange engine problems. I'm not good with words and originally from the UK.

Thanks for the welcome Dave,

I suppose this reply should go in another section, but this is just an overview: Barrels are off, cams, pistons and barrels look really good, head has some problems (plug threads etc.). The reason I am stripping the engine is because the bike vibrated VERY badly and having had 2 new ones I know this is way past normal and is not carb balance or engine mounts (checked ok). No noises from the engine when it was running and it was running on all 4 cylinders. My guess is crank as that is the only thing heavy enough to cause a vibration like this. I suppose it could also be a problem with the clutch basket, but I will have to wait and see. Have communicated with lots and lots of people about it, and nobody has come across one that vibrates this badly. I am open to any thoughts and suggestion though and they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks JL, I'll try to figure out adding pictures ASAP and yes I do have a Factory and a Haynes manual. Both are invaluable .

Hi Dave, I hope these come through. I have attached one before starting the strip down. The bike passes the 20 foot look, but as you get closer there are some flaws. Rear brake master cylinder has leaked, paint chips etc. but nothing major. Only problem really is the severe vibration, which I should have video'd before starting to strip her down.

I have to agree with you there JL. Shame its got some engine trouble, but the way I look at it, that is part of the fun and it gives me way more opportunity to mess up and learn from my blunders LOL
