nothing new about me.my topic is misleading.i am 71.riding since 72.wow thats almost 100 years isnt it. I just bought a great condition 8w 650 csr.i have owned over 50 bikes .but i am looking. Forward to this one.i am done with big bikes and i dont road trip anymore.its tires are old and thin.i plan on buying the cheapest i can find and mount them myself. I hate the ripoff dealer prices. I live in wichita falls texas.

Howdy. For tire mounting maybe try Craigs List or ask at the Two Wheeled Texas site to see if anyone mounts tires on the side. I found someone near me who did them for $25 per wheel. I brought the wheels & tires to his house, and he mounted them right then & there.

ps: I have an 81 650-CSR & my former neighbor down the street had an 82.

I really like it.i just turned 71. My other bike isnt running.a 1500 goldwing.after 8 yamaha ventures and 8 goldwings this bike is fun to ride even though its not running right.i wonder if our bikes size tubed tires will be hard to find.

Tires for the KZ650 are very easy to find, but don't look for tube type. There is no problem at all using tubes inside tubeless tires. Having said that, do not buy radial tires since they are not compatible with regular tubes. I use Pirelli Sport Demon tires and they work great. I read that you are trying to buy the cheapest tires you can find. In my opinion that is a BIG mistake since a bad tire can lead to a wreck. Not a good idea. Ed

Cheapest wasnt the right adjective.i doubt i will ride more than 2,000 miles a year.i should have said the best tires i can afford. Prices range fro $50 to 150 each.i want about midrange.i always had dunlops on my old bikes because thats what they came with.

Good to know. So the Pirelli tires should easily be within the $50 - $150 each range. Ed

Shinko's are the value leader. Both 230 (V rated) and 712 (H rated) are very popular with the classic bike crowd. They are not the most long lived but decent. I know a couple of guys that ride quite hard and they said these tires stick just fine.

Avon Roadriders are the best balance of performance, cost, and durability in my opinion. They cost more than the Shinko's but will last longer.

Two tires to stay clear of are Dunlop 404's and Kenda Challangers. Both junk.

Ed's Pirelli's are nice, but expensive and short lived.

I'm running Conti Go's on my 750 and like them. They are a middle of the road tire, and priced accordingly.
