Hello from North Dakota! Recently purchased my very first bike, and I'm very eager to learn more about motorcycle maintenance and finally learn how to ride!

Welcome aboard! I highly recommend you buy a Kawasaki Service Manual for your exact year and model bike. I cannot imagine owning a KZ without the manual because it contains everything from routine maintenance & schedule all the way up to details about rebuilding the various systems. Until you buy one here's a link to one that covers the 1982 KZ440 belt. Ed

Thanks for the advice! I've been using the PDF version of the manual and also have a Clymer Manual.

That's a great bike to start out on. And you won't out grow it in a month or two, the way you would a 250cc bike. Not many bikes made any more in the 350 - 500cc range. They were fun to ride and still capable of highway speeds when needed.

Decent shape. Needs a rear bar. I'm a big fan of the belt drives. Enjoy!

Interesting, the 82 kz305 I recently acquired was also missing the rear grab bar. Why are people removing these?

Mine came with a passenger back rest, I think that the rear bar may have gotten in the way of the back rest and that's why the person before me removed it, or it was the original owner not sure.
