Greetings to everyone! I just purchased a 1990 KZ1000P with 46,000 miles and look forward to lurking around this website learning everything I can from you about this bike. I will attach the first pics I have of it; forgive me for not taking a picture before removing the Seat and tank. I got ahead of myself before taking the pictures. Currently I am cleaning the tank and fuel system, and putting in a new battery. I am starting to develop a plan of which direction I want to take this project. Im torn between simply cutting down the windscreen and painting it out as a kind of bagger look. Im really contemplating shedding a lot of the weight and going old school as I can with a salt flat racer look/cafe racer. This bike is in such great condition though I don't know if I want to strip its heritage from it as an old Police Bike. I have learned the history as being in service with the El Cerrito, CA Police Department before being removed from service and sold to the previous owner. What are your thoughts opinions?

Welcome. There are a few of us flogging these cool old bikes.
My advice is to get it running/safe and ride it for a while before you start cutting it up. They are pretty comfy and great around town. There is a ton of info on this site and some really cool builds.

Thanks Bud, I will take all of that into consideration. Its running now and feeling pretty solid. I'm definitely going to run it for a bit as it is until I decide what direction to go.
