Hello form Texas
29 Jun 2018 22:11
Hello, I recently purchased a 1978 KZ kawasaki 750 twin, my intentions for this motorcycle is to turn it into a cafe racer style. The bike is fair condition, not running when I purchased it, the motor turns but thats it. I have little knowledge on motorcycle.
Heres a little info on the bike
Kawasaki KZ750 Twin
Not running since 1991
No title
No Key
Wires are a little messed up since the previous owner converted it with a windshield so wires on the headlights are cut and spliced and converted.
What I have done so far:
Remove the tank and all the plastic covers to expose the wires and all the internals
drain the old oil with water in the mix
Put new oil and crank it several times to get the circulation.
I would appreciate some inputs on what are the steps that I need to do just to get the bike running, just running or turn on.
P.S. I also noticed that the previous owner made a switch on the right front side where the original headlight will go, I dont know if its a ignition switch or something.
Thank you,

Have you acquired a title for the bike yet? If not, that would be the first thing to do, unless you're sure getting it won't be a problem.
I've read here n there that in some states it's difficult & possibly expensive if you have to pay past due registration fees.
The motorcycle needs a good fully charged battery. Be sure to properly service a new battery, whatever is required, especially a wet-cell battery.
If you do any searches on KZR, be sure to note any comments by steell & bountyhunter --- they know quite a bit about the 750 Twins.

I am working on the tittle now. I just have to get a bonded title since the owner died, so we will see how this goes

Thanks you for this info this will help a lot. On the good side, I bought a battery today and the lights on the dash light up as well as the tail light. Just removed the carburetore and the other one i.e. the float is completely destroyed, so thats another one I need to replace.
