Hi! Looks like a really nice community here!

I just purchased a 1979 KZ1000 LTD yesterday and brought it home after sitting for 10 years. 38,000 original kilometers. Previous owner bought a new bike at that time and stored it at his shop. Unfortunately, looks like there is leaks from the carbs and valve covers. Tried to start it but you know where this story goes :) At least it turns over really good!

A little about me: I bought my first bike when I was 19 after my car engine died. Never looked back! I sold my last bike about 4 years ago - first time being away from a bike. It was shinny and new and I was afraid to scratch the thing. The most fun I have had on bikes was the older bikes I could mess around with. So, I welcome the KZ in my garage B)

Looking forward to posting in the other boards and seeking advice from more experienced KZ owners.

Welcome aboard!
I did a double take on the pic of your bike. At first glance, it looked like a KZP! That is a really nice touring setup. I hope you are already planning some road trips.
In the mean time, don't be bashful about asking questions. Be sure to check the Articlrs tab above to see if there is a factory service manual there for the 1979 KZ1000. If not, you can troll eBay and such for one.

Welcome from T.O. and ask all the questions you have, someone here will have an answer.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Thanks TexasKZ! I am debating whether to remove all the fairings and have a stock KZ without touring pkg. Although, I happened to stop into the original Kawasaki dealer (who is no longer Kawi dealership as they removed dealership status from many franchises years ago) and he informed me he sold this bike New with the touring pkg. and he has worked on this bike ever since. So, I am inclined to clean it up, get the carbs cleaned and enjoy the ride as is this summer. B)
