Hi, my name's Robb, I just picked up a 74 Z1 today. It's pretty rough, will need a frame up restoration. Not sure how good a deal I got... paid 3200. The bike runs good, just needs restoring. I've been looking for a restoreable Z1 for quite a while and figured at 3200 I could put another 2 or 3 in it and would still be under what it's worth. So basically, it's all there, engine matches frame, fenders are good, tank, side covers and tail need paint, controls are faded as are gages, wheels are good, needs tires, seat needs recovering, and It's got a 6" extended swing arm which I'll be bringing back to stock. . I'd appreciate any comments on whether you think I paid too much or got a decent deal.

Yeah, if the numbers are truly correct most other stuff can be solved. $3,200 is in the ballpark of good deal.

Pics?

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm pretty excited about this bike. I've been wanting one since 73. I bought a CB750 in 72 and a buddy bought the Z1 that next year. As soon as I saw his bike and rode it I was wishing I had waited a year. The Z1 was a work of art style wise compared to my bike and I got tired of looking at his ass every time we went riding. I'm actually waiting for the bike to be delivered any minute. It's pretty rough but like Slmjim said, it's all stuff that can be worked out. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them.

Jim (My boss) had a 73, Larry (My best friend) bought the 74, I was on a CB 350 and bought the 75 Z1b. Larry punched his out to 1013 with cams and a Kirker (he was a lousy rider and needed the edge) Jim was always the leader no matter what we did. I'd get around Larry before he could shift down. I don't know about them now but I still have mine. BTW, WELCOME B)

Here's some pics of the bike. (PO changed the side covers. It's a Z1, not a KZ)

Sorry to tell you, that is most likely a 1976 KZ900. Aside from the side covers, which I think would not be a simple plug and play swap between the two bikes due to the mount location, I can tell from the location of the battery and no reflectors on the front forks and rear shocks. Rear tail light is from a 76 KZ and the front fender looks like from a KZ LTD style. I would ask him for the frame and engine VIN numbers. Personally, I would not pay $3200 for a 76 KZ900 in that shape. Maybe $1500 to $2000. But I have been out of the market for awhile now. So could be wrong about that. Nonetheless, it is not a Z1. The VIN's will conform or not.

Crap. The title says 1974 900Z and the number on the frame matches the title. The VIN is Z1F21697. Might this bike be as 74 Z1A with a mix mash of parts or what?
