First bike purchase - 1980 kz650

Hello - I am about to pull the trigger on a 1980 kz650. I would really appreciate any type of feedback to help me along with this purchase. I will attach a link of the bike I am about to buy. The owner is asking $1000 OBO... needs the carbs cleaned and rear break pads.

That poor bike has seen better days. What are your plans for it? I'm thinking $500 not $1,000. Ed

The seller was going for a cafe race. I think I would like to take more in the direction of a tracker style.
Was planning on using it as a commuter for the summer and running errands....then taking it apart in the winter.
