New to KZ bikes and the forum was created by 08 Vulcan
Hello everyone, i'm new to the site but I'm an old rider, Started off on a Yamaha 175 in 1980 then on to a KZ550 been hooked on Kawasaki since. Now that I'm older I have a 08 Vulcan 1600 Nomad, now to the good part I have come across a 1978 KZ1000 Z1r, 46,0000+ miles ridden really hard from the second owner. Good deal for me $500 bucks, it has a low Vin # engine is 006183, frame is 006185. I was told by an old Kawasaki guru that some engines were pulled during the production run and put on the dyno to check horsepower, some got out of sync number wise. Can anyone tell me if that is true???? there were only 17,001 built in 1978. Also I have met the salesman of this bike when it was sold from House of Kawasaki in early 1978. Thank you so much.

I don't think there are many young riders left on KZ's (at least in Australia) so welcome especially with a Z1R, I have to admit I don't remember my frame and engine numbers but I thought they were further apart than yours is. My bike was one of the very first batch to arrive into Australia and I'm the original owner.
Any pictures, details of its condition, the price looks good.

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)
