Just got my hands on a 1981 KZ550-A2 yesterday in 7/10 condition. Was looking to nab a factory service manual but i can't nail down which p/n is actually the real manual.

I called Kawasaki and they told me p/n 99924-1018-05 was right, but also 99924-1018-06 and 99924-1018-04. 06 seems to be the giant one at 400 pages and the other two are supplements?

Looking for some insight into this!

Thanks!

No, those are all full manuals with supplements. The Kawasaki supplement manuals I've seen have the word supplement on the front cover. The 81 550 manual part number suffix is -03 (not -05), but you can use any of the others you listed. The -06 manual would be the largest one as it covers more years & models. The way most Kawasaki manuals are written is that the first year is the base manual, then each succeeding year is covered by a supplement in the back of the base manual, with a supplement added for each model year. Also, Kawasaki factory manuals have a model application chart on the back cover, so make sure your bike is on the list. some eebbaayy sellers include a photo of the back cover which also has the part number at the bottom.

Thanks so much for all the replies. Very insightful. I picked up the 06 manual, i think that should suffice.

If you follow the link in my signature, you can get several manuals and supplements. I would download all of them for reference, as there were probably some minor corrections along the way. There is also a third party manual in there.

Before you wrench on the motor, you might want to read the valve-train warning in my signature.
