New owner KZ1000 1977

New bike. Have. z10 Concours and 650 KLR as well.
It was sat for years. Engine not seized. 14,000 miles. It's all there. Started to tear into it. I was going to build a goose bike, but I might just leave it stock . Carbs in good shape. Brakes are toast. Prime are good spokes will need repeating. It's going to clean up nice. Not my first rebuild , but all advice welcome.

Nice bike. Looks like it has 29 mm smooth bore carbs and an oil cooler. Might be a built engine.

Thanks all. The bike was left out for a while, but it's really OK. The tank was chrome. Was that a stock option? I used some rust remover and steel wool and it came up fairly well. I'll need to clean the tank insides. No pin holes so the tank wasn't full of gas. The petcock was off so the carbs should be fine after a good cleaning. The seat pan is even good.
Front and rear master cylinders are pretty far gone. Calipers should be rebuildable . Rims are good. No deep rust. I'll take off tires and send all the spokes and hardware to be replated. Rear fender needs replacement to.
Will need help in future I'm sure. I'll keep you posted.
Regards.

Ebay for fenders and such. I bought a NOS front fender $250. Paid $45 for the rear used. With all the work I stopped counting at $3500. Where else can you buy a Z1 for $3500?

The 77 ltd came in maroon or blue. The only bike with any chrome on the tank was the 80 z1 classic.

Had some time to get a good start. Time and exposure took its toll. Removed and cleaned both calipers. One rear piston has pitting, and front piston is pitted. Fenders are not perfect, but can be salvaged. Took some time to remove rear brake lever. It was really rusted on hard. Heat,PB blaster WD 40 and beating finally got it free.
Removed wheels and discs. Discs are good. I'm going to send all hardware and spokes to be replated. Touching up rust spots in frame as well.
Question. Where can I get the rubber boots on the rear master cylinder? There rotted and I can't find a parts source for them.

Welcome COKID.
Looking forward to your project.

I like the thought of doing a Goose bike.
Does add to costs.
I've wanted the tail/seat combo for my 650 with the fairing.
