I'll give the carb a look and mess with that needle. Frame in the rear is a 76 iron head so unfortunatly it would get an iron head engine but I'm thinking I'll sell it since the cost of the engine would get me a used evo sporty.

Fuel level seemed ok,so ok I spilled it all over my jeans, haha. I moved the needle clip to the top, re assembled it.kicked it over, nothing, put the choke up and boom, worked great. Havnt taken it for a ride yet but tomorrow ill give it a test run to let it really warm up but I think itll be perfect now!

Id love to do so many things to this bike but it seems like its coolest in stock form since it has a new seat and fresh paint, and the rest of the bike is in such great shape. 11k miles which dosnt seem to bad fora 78!

Alright tried to go for a ride and the bikes worse of than before. Choke lets it start but now it hesitates and wont idle without the choke.....II went up to the top of the needle, maybe I just need to try in between the middle and top?

Ok just got back from a quick zip with it in between the top and middle, 2nd slot. It starts easier and feels like it has more power but is dieing at stops....if I give it a bit of gas it will idle fine but with immediate cut off of the throttle it will just drop and die.

So, your saying the power is good but dies at stops. Does leaving the choke on stop this? It sounds like just an increase to idle is what you need. ( if I'm on the same page,) should just be an idle screw you can turn in to increase your rpms at idle. A trick to tell if it's just an idle screw adjustment is to see if it runs fine with the throttle cable tight enough to keep the rpms up to the correct range.

3000 rpm is not idling. 1000 +/- 50 rpm is idling. You need to clean that carb. Ed

I know you said you cleaned the carb but I would suspect something in the pilot circuit.

LOL!! There is nothing to suspect in my opinion!
The idle and pilot circuit in the carb's are dirty and or plugged.
Soaking does virtual nothing.
You must scrap crud out of tiny passage ways in the carb bodies.
Cleaning jets and brass is only half way there.
