New guy

Hi, I am Sean. My KZ history goes back to the mid 90's when I rode a 77 KZ650 w/Kerker 4 into 1 around for about 5 years and I've kicked myself ever since for selling it. My employment includes Honda/Kawasaki West of Fort Worth, 2 indy shops and as a builder for American Ironhorse Motorcycle company before they went under. Now the skinny on why I'm here, I was just given a 79 z1000 sd rolling chassis. Sadly parts are missing namely the tank, seat, exhaust, tail/side covers and carbs. And the engine is stuck, guess I can't complain too much for free. I haven't worked in a MC shop since '05 so i'm as rusty as this roller is. Looking forward to reading your build threads and swapping info and ideas. And after two days of surfing internet and seeing what all is still available for these models, my gears are definitely turning.

Just in the planning stages right now, guess I could go several different ways with what all is missing off it. Nothing to fancy, maybe some tasteful mods. And i do have a set of Mikuni CR's on the shelf that would prolly fit them. What I'm wondering is if the tear drop tank would fit on this. i believe it came with the "box" tank.

Hey Sean, is that a Vetter headlight ring hanging on it? Is it in good shape? Mine has a deep scratch in it. I used the headlight bucket and ring off my clunky Vetter faring after the wreck. Muck easier to change headlights with it.

just take your time and find parts. I still have not put this together yet but have most of it done.

Yes sir it is, bike was equipped with a Vetter fairing at one point. bucket and ring seem to be in decent shape.
