KZ750... F? was created by kennethcmerrill
Hi! I'm so glad to find a community I can turn to in times of ignorance, haha. I'm new to motorcycles, owned mine for about a year, and I'm about to embark on the adventure that is motorcycle maintenance. Up until now I've had a local guy doing all my repairs and tune-up, but I can't afford that anymore, so it's time to learn some things.

And I'm already running into confusion: According to the spec sheet located underneath the seat of the bike, the "engine family" is KZ750F. The bike is a 1982, and it has LTD stamped on the side panels. So, I picked up the KZ750 80-85 Clymer manual, but on all of the spec sheets, there is no mention of a 750F. H, L, E... all in there, but no F.

Even weirder is that this is still a chain-drive bike. It's NOT the 1983 F1 model.

Basically I haven't found any info on an F LTD model anywhere, and I'm just wondering if any of you fine people would know how to proceed with this year's maintenance. Interestingly, the mufflers are stamped, "KZ750H, KZ650 E/H/L". Does that suggest the bike is actually a KZ750H? Even if it's not, would it be too dangerous to go by "H" specs when I'm tuning and torquing?

Though I intend to be a proficient mechanic in the end, I'm a complete newb as is. Help is very welcome!

Kenneth

Not sure what model it is, but torque specs general dont very too much by model in the same series on most parts anyway.

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

If the bike is an 82, then it's a KZ750-H3 Ltd. You can check the VIN at Kawasaki.com.

Here's a site w a manual & wiring diagrams. mbsween.bike-night KZ750L3 page
Scroll down & click "The Bible" link.

Note: some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links.
The 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4. search tags mbsween KZ750L3

a pic of your bike in this thread may help with identification. It is possible that the PO threw on some parts from another model, like side covers, and hence the confusion.

It could be the seat and those side covers are not original. Please use the serial number (vin) at the front of the frame (under the handlebars) to identify the frame and bike model. There will be another serial number on the engine block on the right side (sitting) on the top of the block, under the carburetors. Also if you have the wrong service manual, I'm certain someone here will need it. Try to find a Kawasaki service manual (on ebay) for the most accurate information.

Maintenance you can find in the owners manual.
