After spending too much money and time in the garage keeping my 1986 Cherokee Chief alive I finally convinced my wife that I should get a motorcycle. And it's not a jacked up take me anywhere kind of Jeep, it's pretty stock, the more miles I put on it (and it's been my DD) the more it breaks down. So I put up a good enough argument to convince her that if drive the Jeep less by getting a motorcycle, the Jeep would break down less. Anyways, I have never owned a motorcycle before, but several of my friends do, and a good friend of mine introduced me to a buddy of his that works on motorcycles. Well, that was 4 months ago, and his buddy Tyler (BangMoto in SLC, UT) put together a 1980 KZ750E-4 for me.
4 in 1 header.
Pod filters.
Re-jetted carbs: primary-65, secondary-140.
Fixed some oil leaks.
Replaced bad ignition coil.
Replaced carb holders.
It has a stripped down, cafe racer look. He did great work on the cosmetics, but I'm discovering that there is a lot of work that still needs to be done. And motorcycle maintenance is new territory for me, right out of high school (10 years ago) I was trained as a bicycle mechanic and I've always tried to do my own auto-mechanic work with lots of help from the interwebs. I am definitely a DIY-er. Mostly because I enjoy it, and partially because I can't afford to pay somebody else to do it. I did purchase a PDF of the service manual for like $5, but the pictures are really crappy so I will be investing in a paper copy in the next little while. This is my first forum I have ever joined. I have been reading on kzrider for about a month just trying to help diagnose and find solutions to some issues that I'm having with my bike, and I figured I shouldn't be a mooch so here I am. There is a boat load of information on the site, and I'm excited to be a part of it. I am rushing out the door to work, I will put my bike info in my signature and upload a pic of my bike to my profile later today. Thanks guys, I look forward to being a part of the community.

Whatever you do, make sure you get a KAWASAKI service or shop manual specific to your model/year, don't bother wasting your money on a Clymer or Haynes manual, they are too vague & cover many different models & years

Welcome to the forum and to riding. Hope you took the BRC or had a good riding trainer!

Some of the guys on here are rather knowledgable. If you have any questions, just ask. I am sure someone will know the symptoms.

Treat people with respect, until they prove they shouldn't be.
