New KZ rider from Iowa was created by awdroket
Hey everyone, just picked up a 1981 KZ 650 CSR with 15k miles. Really clean bike but it's been sitting for a while and needs some carb work and tires. I have a few questions.

1. Anyone on here I could send the carbs to and have them gone through?
2. Cheapest place to get tires/tubes online and is it worth trying to do myself with the wire spoke wheels?
3. Recommendations for an inexpensive windshield.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Wow nice bike. Great find. Get a manual and go through the carbs yourself. You can find a copy of the manual somewhere on this site. Not that hard to do once you have done it. Again nice bike!

If you need a manual, the following site has the 81 KZ650 pdf in the Files section.
jarlef z650 .

I disassembled, cleaned, & rebuilt my own carbs. It seemed fairly straight forward to me.

Doing your own tires is hard. I have the same bike & could not do the Rear - the old tire was hard as rock & the rim stoppers are a bear to deal with... you don't want to pinch the tube.
The Front tire is doable, but it's still hard.

I got Bridgestone Battlax BT45 tires from MotorcycleSuperstores.

Does your bike have the stock handlebars? If so, you might want to consider replacing them, especially before getting a windshield --- the fitment for the stock bars may not work with different handlebars. don't ask how I know.

1, z1wiz in Lisbon Iowa (KZRIDER Member)
2. C.R. Tire in Marion Iowa www.cedarrapidstire.com/home.php
3. Maybe J and P cycle in Anamosa Iowa? www.jpcycles.com/pages/worldheadquarters

I know your local dealer (Sindt) could do the work also, but with any dealer your going to pay.

Thanks bromz! I think I'll give it a shot.

Martin, thanks for posting that link. I just found out the bike is actually an 82 not an 81. Now I just need to find a manual for an 82.

KD hart, I'll check out cr tire, thanks!

I took some more pics this past wknd, I'll try and get them posted soon.
