Noob here...
29 Mar 2014 10:04
Hello everyone. I have been checking out this forum for a while now and thought I would get signed in. I recently acquired a 1980 KZ750e. The reason I say acquired vs. purcharsed is I got the bike completely free. I was dropping my son off at his girlfriends grand parents one day and saw the bike leaning against a tree. I told my son to tell his girlfriends grandpa, that I would love to have that bike. A week later, it was mine. That is the easy part. This bike had been sitting there leaning up against a tree for so long that the tree grew around the handlebar and brake lever. It took the grandfather to pull the damn thing out with his tractor to get it unstuck. So needless to say the bike is going to need some work. My plans for the bike are to cafe it out. I currently have everything stripped down and I am now de-tabbing the bike. There are a couple of things I now I am going to need right off the bat. When I got the bike it had no tank. So ebay here I come! Second, the bike had no seat. Which is ok since I will be putting on a brat style cafe seat. I have had bikes all my life, but this will be the first one I will be building from the ground up. I would like to post my progress for all to read in the projects section. Anyway, I am looking forward to getting to know everyone on here.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Welcome aboard! It sounds like the old owner parked it next to an acorn many years ago. Ed

Thanks for the welcome guys... I have run into my first problem. In the process of tearing down the bike, while pulling off the left side shock, I snapped the lug. Any suggestions for replacement? I plan on re-fabbing the rear end anyway. I will shoot some pics later on today.

Invest in some kroil ( or other good penetrating oil) and take your time.
Other than that the best way to "repair" the mounting stud (the top shock mount, correct?) is to remove it all together from the frame and weld in a new one. There really doesnt seem to be a good alternative way to do it to me.

+1 !! Kroil really does work extremely well. See link below. Ed
