Just a few words to say G'day -
I'm rebuilding a '78 Z1-R downunder in Oz. Got the bike as a project back in Oct 2011 - it was stripped down and mostly all there, with the engine, forks, wheels already refurbished but the usual woes with lots of rubber bits and small items rotten/rusted/corroded etc!. Am now about to get the external appearance of the engine fixed up before fitting to frame - it was repainted black a while ago by a previous owner but needs re-doing due to paint flaking/corrosion. Have sourced lots of parts from the US of A and here in Oz (cheaper to buy them o'seas even with exchange rate and freight!)
Previous Kawas owned since 1972: - H1B, H2A x2, Z650A, Z900A4, Zephyr 750, Z1-Rx2, Used to race H2A in production and B grade open classes in NZ back in the 70's. Had a few "offs" during racing career in the Marlboro support races and street circuits .
Restored a '73 H2A here in Oz back in the 90's and had the restoration article published in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics (UK Mag). Much easier now to track parts with the internet/eBay etc than back then!
Looking forward to making a nuisance of myself here as the resto progresses!
A pic of the project so far (frame anyway, the rest is tucked in boxes in the shed awaiting completion of the rolling chassis!) Hope to have him back on the road next year sometime - running on a small budget!
Cheers/beers, Bill.

You look to be off to a great start with that rolling frame. Wish you success on the resto. Keep us posted with lots of pics.
