Hello All :)

My name is John and I am in North Carolina.

I have a KZ1000. It's a complete bike but not running. The neck of the frame says KTZ00B born 12/78. So do I have a 1978 or 1979? I will do some searching before I start with any other questions.

Thank you for having this forum!

John

Welcome John...you have a 1979 year model LTD...aka KZ1000B3. Similar to automobiles, the current year's model starts being assembled during the fall of the previous year...rephrased, the 1979 model started being made during the fall of 1978....so, by December....

Wow cool! Thanks guys. Hopefully I will have her up and running soon. So far I have great compression, she turns over easily but no sparky. On to the ignition circuit!

Check the motor vin too. Late 79 LTDs had the MKII engine. Early models had a hybrid engine. 15 tooth crank with the newer alternator and newer style engine covers. Not that it matter a great deal but thought you might like to know that.

Is it black with blue and gold pin stripes or green with green decals?

Pics attached. Anyone have an ignition system for my bike? The coils and dyna module are toast. I suppose the dyna pick up plate is good.

The motor number is KZT00AE 0793

That motor VIN doesn't match a 1979 year model...what is the complete frame VIN? Might you have transcribed the motor VIN incompletely? It is also possible that an earlier model engine was put in a later model frame...mix and match frequently occured in the 1015 model KZ1000's.

Just read Patton's post...are you located in Canada? If you truly have an A3 motor, then this is a fact you must remember when ordering motor parts.

Well look at that a Canadian motor, thanks PAtton! I'm not in Canada, I am in NC. I'm trying to piece together this KZ's past right now. I have no title either. I performed a motor swap for my friend on his sportster and he had bought this KZ from the guy he got the new sportster motor from. He gave me the KZ for my labor.....years ago now (two or three?)

I will make sure I pay attention when ordering parts. Thank you also McDroid
