I'm new around these parts. My motorcycle is almost as old as I am. We're still getting to know one another. I'm a relative n00b to the motorcycle world (been riding only 1.5 years), so I'm eager to learn.

I had one entry-level question:
I'm planning on taking a vacation for 24 days fairly soon. What should I do with the bike? I don't own a trickle-charger, do i need one, or should it be ok for this length of time? Should I drain the gas sitting in the carbs before I go, or is it not a big deal? Anything else? Thanks so much!

Hi, that's a great looking bike you've got there, I like the seat especially. Do you know the make as I'm guessing it's not standard.

Assuming the battery is in good condition, I'd say leaving the bike for 24 days won't do any harm.

That's a really nice bike you have there. I'm guessing you are somewhere in Europe and that's a EU model. Love the colour and the little turn signals.

Regarding vacation, if it was me I'd probably drain the carbs - easy to do - as anything in the carb bowls will probably evaporate in 24 days this time of the year and leave crud behind....... but then I hear EU gas is cleaner than N American.

Another option would be to add some stabilizer to the fuel, and then run the engine for a minute or so to allow the stabilized fuel to enter the carbs.

Nice bike!...I might suggest pulling the battery out...storing the battery in a cool place (temperature-wise), and setting it on a wooden shelf or boards (they tend to lose less charge)...I second the addition of fuel stabilizer.

Welcome to kzr. As already stated if the battery is a good battery it will be fine for a month. If its weak i would try to get a trickle charger for it. As far as the gas goes it would most likely be ok in the bowls. But if your picky like me i would drain them.

hi all!
thanks so much, this is great.

It's funny someone mentioned the seat. i'm not sure of the make, actually, but I was thinking of having new foam put into it, to have more bounce/be more comfortable. The extra inch or so of height would also be nice, as it's kind of low. Is that easily done? Is there a thread about it somewhere, or does anyone have any tips?

It looks like a previous owner has taken some foam out of it already.
Remove the seat cover, if possible.
Usually they are clipped onto barbs around the inner bottom edge of the seat.
If the cover is easily removed, you can add some foam and reattach the cover yourself.
