jdougs wrote: Thanks, I knew they weren't original, but had no idea what they were from. I'm embarrassed to say my knowledge of motorcycles is pretty much limited to it has to be a Kawasaki, and preferably an air-cooled 4 cylinder (I figured that out 25 years ago). But I am reading and learning as I go along. Just going through the forums here has been educational and interesting. It seems like a lot of good people are here and eager to help.

No not original shocks and no nit picking just wanted to give you some details on the units themselves. Actually they should be an improvement if the shock length is not too much longer or shorter than original. Otherwise, those units might affect steering geometry and ultimately your steering/handling. As Tri said, good handling bikes in stock trim.

Thanks for the info. I knew they looked similar to the ZRX shocks, but it didn't occur to me they could be off of one, I just assumed they were KYB aftermarket. The bike handles nicely up to about 90-95, then starts to get a wobble, though no where near as bad as some I've been on. I took it up to around 110, but it didn't feel too stable at that speed, so I didn't push it any farther. Seems pretty solid in turns, though I haven't pushed it too hard in them, so I am assuming they are reasonably close to OE shock length. I didn't buy it to push too hard, just wanted to see what it had and how it handled at higher speeds now that I had enough miles on it to know it was basically pretty solid. It definitely turns some heads, and gets questions at the gas pump. Amazes everyone that it is 31 years old.

What tires are you running and how many miles do they have? A few years ago my KZ650 would develop a wobble at around 90 mph (not fun at all). After going through and replacing the suspension pieces it turned out to be a bad tire. The tires looked great and didn't have more than a couple thousand miles and not much wear, but for some reason they became unstable at speed. I replaced them and the wobble is totally gone. Ed

I was told when I bought it they were new, and based on the tread, I can't argue with that. They are Dunlop Arrowmax. May have to look at an upgrade next spring.

could be the steering head bearings causing the wobble
