Streetfighter in Training

Hello everyone. I've owned my 78 KZ1000 for about two years now and I am ready to make a few modifications. Over the last two years I have done small updates, repairs, and simple mods. Ultimately I would like to build it into a mild yet wild, streetable yet powerful, head turning machine.

I just purchased a Wiseco 1015 drop in kit for a little more power, and I'll probably pick up a few parts from APE to finish out the top end. I'll also upgrade to a Dyna-s ignition and coils, 4-1 exhaust and rejet the carbs. But I would like to swap out the swingarm and run a wider tire. I would also like to swap out the forks for some that are a bit more aggressive and allow for updated bars and electronic display with ease. A cafe racer styled body with some kind of engine fairing to channel air across the oil cooler...

OK, so that is my plan... Anyone with wisdom to share will be greatly appreciated! :)

(FYI my avatar pic is about a year old so I will update it soon)

Welcome to being a Streetfighter in Training :)
Is someone fitting those (drop in ) pistons for you as sizes do vary. 1075 kit would be the way to go if still a option. Lots of folks have swapped front and rear suspensions to update the whole handling package so pick one and go for it !!
I have told others here that a game plan for the final product is the best way to go to avoid spending money twice to achieve the desired results. But no matter what ride that bike and have fun !!!

Dave, Thanks for the reply.

Once I have gathered all the engine parts I need I will have a machine shop clean up the block and match the pistons. Do you have suggestions regarding front and rear suspension swaps? I've heard of several people using Suzuki parts...but I'm not sure if there are specific swaps from specific bikes that are tested, tried, and true.

Welcome and I agree if its not too late 1075 goes along way
there are tons of options on the front and rear otions I piece mealed
mine with an 02 zx 6 swingarm and mono with zx7 front end the ride is amazing

as I am sure any upgrade would be with todays springs and shocks.

my conversion started out almost identical just wanted a little larger rear tire
complete mono conversion later a 190 tire. one thing led to another led to another
led to another...good luck feel free to ask if I can be of any help

Im in the same boat myself. Have a gsxr swingarm but find myself wondering what the best fork swap would be for my 79 kz400...

Welcome aboard. I'm in the process of converting my 78 650 to a streetfighter look. I'm running forks off a 2001 Buell X1 Lightning, and a rear off a 1998 Ninja 900/600 mix combo. Here's my build thread.
