Potential new owner of 77 KZ1000, have VIN ??? was created by southofheaven
Looking at picking up a nicely modded KZ1000. It has been upgraded with new paint, zx6r front end other nice bits. The vin situation has me a little uneasy. He has a clean title for a 77. The frame has been powdercoated and thus the vin sticker is missing. The owner is stating that some of the older KZs were not stamped and only came with the sticker, is this true?
Thanks Brian

To the best of my knowledge all frames were stamped on the steering head tube.

I should have wrote.......... :pinch: you could order/buy a replacement frame but most dealers usually made you bring a title for same......as replacement frames have no #'s or sticker......

There is an outside chance that the current owner may not even realize that the frame is stamped (and it is not tiny...perhaps 3" long...you should be able to see/feel the VIN number, if it is actually stamped. If the frame has been powder-coated, then the stamping impressions will be slightly filled in, but should still be legible. If there is no trace of a stamp, then follow Roy's advice.
