New to KZ
13 Feb 2013 01:15
Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Dustin and I am new to motorcycles in general. Just bought my first bike and it is an 82 KZ750. Its in rough shape but I plan on turning it into a cafe racer within the near future. I'm going to apologize now though because I am a car mechanic so I will probably be asking quite a few questions when it comes to building my racer. Thanks for any help that you guys can provide in advance.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationIt'll come up sooner or later, so I'll go ahead & ask... What KZ750?
There were several for 82, including a Twin & a shaft drive Spectre. You could put the info in your signature.
The Kawasaki.com & Partzilla diagrams are helpful. Both have a cross-reference.
Here's a 650 that was posted over at the KZ650.Info site.

Hello, Dustin, and WELCOME to KZrider!
There are several different 1982 KZ750 models, including twin-cylinder and four-cylinder models, which are very different motorcycles.
Including information about bike year and specific model is helpful to viewers and usually elicits better responses.
It's easy to put the information in your signature where it shows in all posted messages, past and future.
And may be changed whenever and as often as desired.
If wanting a signature showing information about the bike in posted messages, it's easy to do. Here's how:

Sorry guys I"m new to motorcycles in general, It is a KZ750 Spectre according to the guy I got it from, also it is shaft driven. I am planning on switching out the swing arm and front forks if I can find something, basically I would love to make it look somewhat like these bikes
here is how I got it

It is refreshing to see someone using a bike that has been abused/neglected as a starting point for a project rather than starting with one that is in great condition. I would suggest that you begin by getting the engine and charging system working well. If you do that you will be able to use it as a baseline to determine if any mods you make (pods, exhaust, wiring, etc.) improve or degrade performance. Otherwise if you try to get it running well after changing stuff it may be difficult (impossible?) to determine if any performance problems are the result of a change you made or something that was already wrong with the engine. Those 750-4 engines are really nice (smooth & good power) when running well. I think you will find swapping the swingarm may require switching from shaft drive to chain drive, so you may want to search this site to see how others have done this; it can be done. Good luck. Ed

Thanks for the help, the bike actually runs good for the condition it is in. Needs front brake parts an ignition switch and a new starter solenoid. But I saw great potential in this bike soooo hoping it turns out good. As far as the swing arm swap from what I have seen I have come to the conclusion that I will have to more than likely switch to chain drive so hopefully I will find a decent wrecked bike that I can use for parts.
